What would a curry be without coriander? What would we be without it too?

Coriander or Coriandrum Sativum not only has a great growing habit with its variegated leaves and cernuous appearance, but add to this its magical taste, one that gets your taste buds going as soon as it is brought into the home. For us it totally enlivens a curry as we at Opening Space Retreat are keen creators of Indian and Thai delicacies. If we run out of this sensuous plant, a shortage which we are trying to address by growing our own, then we feel bereft as no curry is complete without this aromatic herb.

The health benefits of coriander are manifold and include:
* Coriander is an antioxidant, and has antibacterial qualities
* Coriander is a folk remedy for anxiety and insomnia
* Coriander is a diuretic and carminative
* Coriander is a traditional treatment for diabetes and is useful in lowering
   cholesterol levels

Coriander has eleven components of essential oils, six types of acids including Vitamin C, minerals and vitamins

  1. It's interesting how the different parts of the plant (leaves, stalks, seeds) impart a different flavour to a dish ...
