What do you think this is an image of?

It is quite a strange image to get to the bottom of, or maybe for some it isn't! Let me set a context....... when we have retreat guests at the Opening Space Retreat we try, except during the Winter weeks when it is -20 degrees, to have a fire pit session. What happens during these is that: we congregate around our large fire pit where we light a fire; we play music; Nigel and anyone else who is interested, plays our array of musical instruments and we have toasted-in-the- embers roquefort cheese baguettes. We also marvel at the perfect starry sky, as without street lighting, it is possible to pick out the constellations very easily.

The picture above, is of what has become known as the wicker burning, an irregular ritual where we send one of our garden chairs, the one most broken down as a result of being left in the garden all year round thus tending to rot, to the great wicker chair heaven. The construction of these chairs which is based on so much tension actually makes for great and exciting furnace fires, burning as they do, so fiercly. This particular chair burned so furiously that we all had to stand back as the heat it generated was intense. Everyone who has experienced one of these fires never forgets the experience.

We will be having one of these fires in the next couple of days.......
