How do you get through the hayfever, allergy and insect bite season?

There are many pharmaceutical medications on the market for hayfever and insect bites, and many people gain relief through them from the debilitating symptoms that these conditions engender. We at Opening Space Retreat use holistic products such as flower essences, homeopathy, herbs and plants to assist in treating these complaints.

Above you can see two of the Bach Flower Essences. These 38 flower based essences are useful for a wide variety of conditions including hayfever and insect bites. It is good to keep a stock of flower essences as a kind of First Aid Kit alongside one for Homeopathy, a subject mentioned below.

Homeopathic remedies abound which are useful in the treatment of hayfever, allergies and insect bites and stings. These can include for hayfever symptoms  Allium Cepa, Arsenicum Album, Euphrasia, Ferrum Phosporicum, Gelsemium, Natrum Muriaticum and Nux Vomica. For insect bite symptoms remedies include Aconitum Napellus, Apis Meliifica, Cantharis and Hypericum.  It is good to take advice from a qualified homeopath and here at Opening Space Retreat we have Dr Saravanan who can advise through consultation about Homeopathy, Flower Essences and Nutrition for Health.

We also use Borage or Borago officinalis, a furry leafed herb, both by applying the broken leaves to insect bites to soothe them and to make a hot infusion for chest problems associated with allergies. The tea has quite a mild taste and is easy to digest. It calms the chest and soothes the airways.

Insect bites and stings also respond well to Plaintain, no, not the banana like plant but Plantago Major or Bird's Meat. The leaves rubbed directly onto a bite have a calming affect.
