Ernest Nivet, 1871-1948, Local Sculptor

An artist of Berry, being born in Levroux and lived in Chateauroux, a student of Rodin and a friend of Camille Claudel and Francois Pompon. His work is influenced by the rural nature of the region and is inhabited by the simplicity of its humble and pious inhabitants.

This sculpture above is to be found in the church square at Levroux  our nearest big town. Its authenticity is astounding, fresh and vibrant.

This work like all of his projects is close to an idealization that is found in the novels of George Sand herself an inhabitant of Nohant south of the region.
